Welcome to Mountain Eco Shelter 9, a unique lodging experience in the beautiful region of Madeira Island, Portugal. Our concept is all about immersing yourself in nature and disconnecting from the stresses of everyday life. To fully enjoy and interact with nature, we have removed all technologies from our shelters, including Wi-Fi and television. However, Wi-Fi is available at the reception area.
Situated in the mountains within the Funchal Ecological Park, our location offers various recommended hiking trails, canyoning, and an Enduro BTT route, among other activities. The shelters are constructed with wooden materials, providing excellent thermal and acoustic insulation. They are equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay, including a well-equipped kitchen, a dining table, and a bathroom.
Please note that our shelters do not have televisions or Wi-Fi, as we encourage guests to fully embrace the natural surroundings. It’s worth mentioning that the Funchal Ecological Park experienced significant forest fires in 2010 and 2016, resulting in the destruction of a large portion of the forested area. Since 2018, extensive reforestation efforts have been underway, with the planting of 288,000 trees and shrubs. In partnership with the park management, we have designated an area for reforestation and kindly ask our guests to join us in planting a tree, provided by the park’s nursery. This is our small contribution to creating a better world for future generations.
Our space offers free parking facilities, and the Funchal Ecological Park features several recommended hiking trails, perfect for exploring on foot or by bike and enjoying the beauty of nature. Through these trails, you can reach two of Madeira’s most famous landmarks, namely Pico do Arieiro and Monte. Despite being secluded in the mountains, our shelters are only a 20-minute drive from the center of Funchal.
Within a 5-minute walk, you’ll find a snack bar/restaurant called O Barracão, which supports our venture and is also open to the public. In the vicinity of the cabins, there is a stream and a stable with animals that you can interact with. For relaxation, you can also assist in maintaining our orchard and even plant a tree to witness its growth, as we are confident you’ll want to return.
